La Comunidad Autónoma de la Región de Murcia lamenta profundamente el fallecimiento de Jesús Griñán Nicolás, reconocido maestro belenista, ocurrido el pasado 3 de agosto de 2025 a los 85 años de edad.
El funeral se celebrará el próximo martes, 5 de agosto, a las 17:15 horas en la Capilla del Tanatorio Murcia Centro Atalayas, donde familiares, amigos y representantes del mundo de la artesanía rendirán homenaje a su vida y legado.
Nacido en la pedanía murciana de Puente Tocinos en 1940, Jesús Griñán inició su trayectoria artesanal a los 10 años en el taller de D. Antonio Galán Rex, compaginando el oficio con sus estudios en escultura, dibujo y modelado en la Sociedad Económica de Amigos del País (1953-1954). Posteriormente, formó parte de los talleres de los reconocidos belenistas Manuel Ortigas Méndez Y José Cuenca Valverde, donde perfeccionó su técnica durante casi tres décadas.
En 1970 fundó su propio taller de belenes, que en 1994 pasó a denominarse Belenes Murcia, S.L., consolidándose como una de las empresas artesanas más prestigiosas del país.
Fue inscrito en el Registro Artesano de la Región de Murcia el 30 de julio de 1985 como belenista tradicional en barro. En 1988 recibió el Premio Mercurio a la Artesanía, otorgado por la Cámara de Comercio, Industria y Navegación de Murcia. En el año 2000, obtuvo la Carta de Maestro Artesano, concedida por la Dirección General de Comercio y Artesanía. En 2017 fue galardonado con el Regional Craft Award, y en 2019 recibió el Bethlehem Artisan Award, en reconocimiento a su labor incansable en la conservación y difusión del belén tradicional murciano.
El taller, actualmente ubicado en Carril de la Manresa, nº 23, en Puente Tocinos, está dirigido por sus tres hijos, José, María Jesús y Juan Manuel Griñán Zamora, todos ellos reconocidos como Maestros Artesanos por el mismo oficio. La empresa se ha convertido en un espacio de referencia, ofreciendo visitas guiadas y conservando la tradición belenística murciana mediante procesos artesanales completamente manuales.
Con una actividad comercial tanto nacional como internacional, Belenes Murcia, S.L. ha mantenido vivo el espíritu artesanal de su fundador, contribuyendo a la difusión del belén murciano como símbolo de identidad cultural. Entre sus principales hitos, destaca el montaje anual del Belén en el Parlamento Europeo, un reconocimiento internacional que pone en valor la excelencia de la artesanía belenista de la Región de Murcia.
